Side Effects of COVID-19 Vaccines

Writer's picture: NikitaJoshiNikitaJoshi

COVID vaccines aim to provide systemic immunisation. Data from the 2020 worldwide clinical trials reported a 1/10 incidence of sore throat, an uncommon 1/100 incidence of enlarged lymph nodes, and rare 1/1000 incidence of acute peripheral unilateral facial palsy.

Yellow cards are an online system governed by the MHRA, and should be used by patients and clinicians to support the safety of the vaccination programmes. Currently, there is inadequate evidence to accept or reject a casual relationship between vaccines and adverse effects to the head and neck, but a survey began at the start of this year, which is designed to estimate the prevalence and risk factors of oral side effects.
