Psychosomatic disorders on the rise

There has been more symptoms of psychosomatic disorders such as oral dysguesia, oral cenesthopathy, atypical odontalgia, phantom bite syndrome and halitophobia since the pandemic.

However reports state that chronic pain was not affected at all. Psychological impact was assessed using the Self-rating depression scale and pain catastrophising scale. Pts often complained about stress during a syndemic situation (synergy+epidemic), due to factors such as social stigma and poverty. Reduced social interaction, apprehension to go to hospital visits, work and financial stress could prevent pts from getting the tx they need, and lead to a worsening of symptoms, esp for younger people.
