More Children Visiting Dentists due to the Starting Well Drive

30,000+ children 0-5 years have registered with a dentist due to the Smile4Life initiative (started in 2018), designed to reduce oral health inequalities by focussing on those not registered with a dentist and providing preventative advice to parents about reducing sugar intake and increase fluoride exposure.

The programme launched in 13 high priority areas, chosen due to decay experience at a local authority level. Practices involved has to partake in audits and run open days and try and use event stands in order to interact with the public and give them various resources to help.

The idea was to make sure children go to dentists early, have a check-up and get used to being in the dental chair, and want to come back :].

I think this fantastic initiative needs more attention, especially due to the still-high numbers of children 5-9 years having preventable dental extractions in hospitals. It would be great to have this push in other areas of need, and push for progress.
