Learning: Dental Radiography- Fixer solutions and Troubleshooting in Wet Film

Writer's picture: NikitaJoshiNikitaJoshi

This is what I've learnt/ re-capped this week:

Fixer solution= removes undeveloped Silver Halide crystals from emulsion in films.

The main cleaning agent is Ammonium thiosulphate. Also present are:

  • Aluminium salts= tanning agent which hardens and preserves emulsion

  • Acetic acid= acidifier and neutralises the developer

  • Sodium sulphite= preservative.

  • H20= solvent.

Troubleshooting

Underexposure= Either inadequate exposure or developer time, out-of-date developer solution, or too low temperatures.

Overexposure= Either too long exposure time or exposed to light.

Creases/ Folds

Static electricity

Film placed Backwards- makes a tire track Herringbone effect, where the foil is projected onto the emulsion layer

Interesting stuff!
