Antibiotics when to prescribe and when to refer

When:

• Systemic Infection

• Trismus

• Swelling

• Immunocompromised patients

• Temperature of >38 C

When to refer to A & E/ Maxfax:

• Difficulty breathing or airway obstruction

• Facial space infection e.g Ludwigs angina

• Can't stick out tongue

• Difficulty swallowing

• Orbital involvement or closing

• Swelling increasing in size
