It would be wise never to make an incision on the face or neck (not done at a GDP) unless there are artery forceps on hand which clamp bleeding vessels.
During my minor oral surgery module I learned about straight and curved Hasted mosquito forceps, and heavier Dunhill artery forceps. We were told that fine artery forceps should not be used for grasping small pieces of bone or fragments and should be exclusively used as haemostats, as there is risk the beaks could be malaligned. There are other instruments for this.
Some artery forceps can be adapted to different modes e.g blunt dissection, grasping traction sutures and tissue-holding.
